Why luxury vinyl flooring is trending

It would be hard to find something that offers so much value for the decorating dollar, but that’s a big reason why luxury vinyl flooring (LVF) is so sought after. The economy plays a significant role in what trends and, while shoppers are out in mass, they are looking, more than ever, for value. Design options, countless functional capabilities, and affordable prices define this vinyl.

Great for any room in the house

Inspired by nature, LVF's wood, stone, and tile images are taken with high-definition photography, so they're clear and vibrant with grains, veining variations, and brilliant colors and patterns. Micro beveling and embossing add depth, dimension, and textured looks, such as wire-brushed, hand-scraped, and more. In addition, the material can be cut into boards to mimic hardwood or stone slabs, called vinyl plank flooring, or groutable squares to echo tile, called LVT flooring.

LVF is 100% waterproof, making it ideal for kitchens and baths, and other wet spaces. However, the chic design makes it suitable for any room in the house, including living and dining spaces, bedrooms, hallways, and home offices and libraries. We see it also in some homes where once nothing but genuine wood, stone, or tile would be considered.

Waterproof durability

True LVF is five times thicker than the original version and should be at least 8-mm thick, but you can go as high as 12-mm. It has at least four layers and, at the top, is a transparent, robust, melamine wear layer that protects the floor from scratches and scuffs with a urethane finish that makes the product even stronger. In addition, LVF is made from entirely waterproof materials, so it can be either submerged, such as in an appliance flood, or spilled on without damage.

In addition, all this flooring needs is regular sweeping and periodic mopping with a manufacturer-approved cleaner. Avoid waxy, shine-promoting ones, as they can damage the urethane finish and dull the floor. If you feel you need more shine, seek the advice of your flooring professional.

Installation can also be fast and easy, especially when it's a floating floor where the pieces click together and mat and then hover over the subfloor without nails or glue. Subfloors need only be clean, dry, and level. While it can also be installed with the glue-down method, please remember that subfloors must be adequately prepared so imperfections don't telegraph to the surface.

Only your imagination limits you; even the tile mimics can be mixed and matched to create unique designs.
