Vinyl flooring in Norcross, GA from JA Worldwide Design

The three types of vinyl flooring

When vinyl flooring was introduced to the U.S. market so long ago, it was highly praised for affordability, high water resistance, durability, easy-care, and simple installation. Over the years, and with the marvel of technology, it's evolved to include more and better design options and newer and more advanced versions with additional functions.

Sheet vinyl flooring: It got it all started

It launched as early as the 1930s, and it's still an essential player in the residential flooring market. This comes in large sheets with widths of six and 12-feet wide with few seams and a wide assortment of designs from wood looks to colorful geometrics.

Sheet vinyl flooring can be glued down or installed with the loose lay technique where the sheet will hover over a clean, dry, and level subfloor without nails or glue.

Luxury vinyl flooring: the next generation

Luxury vinyl
has become 100% waterproof and can be submerged in an appliance flood or spilled on, with no damage. It's also five times thicker than the original version, with four thick layers that include a robust top, transparent, melamine coating to protect the floor from scratches and scuffs. On top of that is a clear urethane finish that adds to the durability.

This affordable but premium flooring offers images of wood, stone, and tile taken with high-definition photography with micro beveling and embossing to add depth and dimension. There are also textured looks, including wire-brushed, hand scraped, weathered, and distressed.

A significant design option: This can be cut into planks to mimic hardwood or stone slabs, called vinyl plank flooring, or into groutable squares, called LVT flooring.

And yet, another version

Waterproof vinyl flooring is engineered luxury vinyl, even thicker and more durable, available with the WPC (wood plastic composite) or SPC (stone plastic composite) cores, technologically advanced cores that offer the highest level of moisture protection. They won’t peel or ripple ever, no matter how much water there is or for how long.
